If you're calm and compassionate and enjoy helping others work through their problems, a career as a counselor or psychologist could fit you perfectly. Psychology is a profession in a constant state of development. Sigmund Freud, nicknamed the father of psychology, wouldn't recognize many of the more cutting-edge theories in practice and taught at schools today. Though degrees are offered at all levels, many psychologists and counselors go on to earn a master's degree, as it is a prerequisite for many jobs and state licensing. Depending on their career interests, students may choose to focus on clinical psychology, addiction counseling, school counseling, or other disciplines.
